Nat'l Restaurant Assoication Public Policy Brief - Health Care Reform
The National Restaurant Association
supports market-driven health-care reforms that lead to greater access
to affordable, quality health care for American businesses, their
employees and others.
With 13 million employees, restaurants are the nation’s No. 2
private-sector employer. The U.S. restaurant industry is integral to
the nation’s health-care debate and the National Restaurant Association
is a leading voice for market-based reforms. Finding ways to provide
meaningful health care for restaurant employees is essential to our
industry’s and our nation’s future.
NRA is currently supporting bipartisan legislation known as the SHOP Act (S. 979
). It was reintroduced on May 5, 2009 by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL),
Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI)
is the leader for the House version that we anticipate will be
reintroduced soon. Both bills focus on businesses under 100 employees,
using tax credits and purchasing pools to broaden coverage and keep
rates competitive and stable for small group purchasers.
The
National Restaurant Association believes that every American should
have access to affordable health insurance, whether through their
employer or on their own. For more information visit the National Restaurant Association website.
