Nearly 550 Take Advantage of the St. Patrick's Day WRAP SoberRide Inititative PDF Print E-mail
April 2011 - Touted as a “late-night alternative to Metrorail when they (party go-ers) discover they’ve celebrated too well on St. Patrick’s Day” (The Washington Post, 3-16-11), the Washington Regional Alcohol Program's (WRAP) 2011 St. Patrick’s Day SoberRide campaign provided 547 free Washington-metropolitan area cab rides to persons ages 21 and older whom otherwise may have attempted to drive home after drinking.

The nearly 550 SoberRides provided on St. Patrick’s Day represented a more than four-percent increase in SoberRide ridership from last year's (2010) St. Patrick's Day offering (525 > 547 rides). SoberRide’s recent St. Patty’s Day ridership translated into the removal of a would-be drunk driver from Greater Washington’s roadways every 79-seconds.

Since 1993, WRAP’s SoberRide program has provided 52,265 free cab rides to would-be impaired drivers in the Greater Washington area. RAMW continues to be a supporter of one of the most viable means to ensure that all area residents stay safe during holiday periods.
