The engine behind Washington’s nightlifeRegarding the April 22 Weekend story “Chow in the midnight hour,” which stated that “Washington’s expanding nightlife offers one easy explanation for the boom.” Well, the 2003 extension of Metro’s weekend hours to 3 a.m. has had everything to do with the regional proliferation of delicious late-night dining and imbibing options, enabling employees to serve, customers to enjoy and D.C. area jurisdictions to collect more taxes. And it gave revelers an energy-efficient mode of travel. What more can be said? Metro needs to remain open until 3 a.m. on weekends.
