Eve's Cathal Armstrong Is Rammys' Top ChefWednesday, June 20, 2007; Page F02 With so many distinguished dining destinations in the Washington area, it's tough to say which are the very best. Still, at the 25th Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington Rammy Awards Gala, held Sunday at the Marriott Wardman Park hotel, a panel of Washington food writers and hospitality industry educators selected its favorites. The award for new restaurant of the year went to Rasika, the stylish Indian restaurant in Penn Quarter. The award for best fine-dining restaurant went home with the staff of CityZen, in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Southwest. The Arlington hot spot Tallula got the nod for best informal-dining restaurant. And the man with the Irish brogue, Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, was named chef of the year. Other awards went to: Nathan Beauchamp, 1789 Restaurant, rising culinary star of the year; Huw Griffiths, Tabard Inn, pastry chef of the year; David Voorhees, waiter, 2941 Restaurant, restaurant employee of the year; Ellen Kassoff Gray, Equinox, restaurant manager of the year; and Robert Egger, founder and president of D.C. Central Kitchen, the Duke Zeibert Capital Achievement Award. In award categories in which the public votes, this year's best neighborhood gathering place is Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar on Capitol Hill; Zaytinya in Penn Quarter won hottest bar scene; Georgia Brown's downtown is power spot of the year; and Lebanese Taverna in Woodley Park is the people's favorite.
