End the Awkward Project Comes to DC

July 15, 2015

The End the Awkward Project is campaigning in DC on July 15 to help the general public better understand disability issues with the goal of increasing awareness and understanding. Both businesses as well as individuals can help spark conversation about disability issues by wearing distinctive pins and using talking points to engage people.

Businesses interested in participating can register here, and will be sent packages containing pins, talking points and other materials after speaking with an End the Awkward representative. Businesses that take part will be listed on the End the Awkward website and in press materials. Individual participants can register as well here. Individual participants who register before July 8 will be provided with an End the Awkward pin as well as talking points and additional information.

Participants can also spark conversation by watching the "Awkward: Disability Sensitivity Training" video and sharing online, only traveling disabled-accessible routes throughout the city on July 15, and completing an online pledge. To bring the conversation online, participants can share their experiences online with #EndtheAwkwardDC.

Questions can be directed to the DC Office of Human Rights' Director of Policy and Communication Elliot Imse. He can be reached at elliot.imse@dc.gov or (202) 481-3773.
