DC ABC Board Unveils 'Safe Holiday' PSA Initiative

DCABC Board Unveils “Safe Holiday” PSA Initiative to Discourage Drunk Driving and Underage Drinking sponsored by the Charmer Sunbelt Group, DIAGEO and RAMW

Washington, DC—On December 16, 2010, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (Board) announced the unveiling of a “Safe Holiday” public service radio announcement (PSA)initiative designed to discourage drunk driving and underage drinking during the holiday season.  The District of Columbia has received an in-kind donation from The Charmer Sunbelt Group (CSG), Diageo, and The Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), for use in this community outreach campaign. 

The donation will be used for public service radio advertisements promoting a Safe Holiday in the District of Columbia.  The PSA will air locally starting on Saturday, December 18, 2010 and will continue to airthrough December 31, 2010.  The message features Charles Brodsky, Chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board of the District of Columbia.  The PSA seeks to have a positive impact on District residentsand visitors by increasing their awareness regarding the dangers of drinking and driving as well as underage drinking. The Board and our sponsors remind persons of legal drinking age to have an enjoyable and safe holiday celebration through responsible consumption, a designated driver, and taking public transportation.

ABC Board Chairperson Brodsky states in the PSA, “let’s join together tosafeguard our families and communities.  Support Zero Tolerance for drunk driving and underage drinking.”

Brian Fischer, Vice President of Community Relations for CSG stated that“curbing the overconsumption of alcoholic beverages and preventing underage drinking is a top priority for the Charmer Sunbelt Group and weare so pleased that this initiative includes members of the District ofColumbia’s Hospitality Industry.” “The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington is pleased to partner with the Charmer Sunbelt Group and Diageo in support of the DC ABC Board to promote this responsible hospitality practice, including the extremely important message of having a Safe Holiday,” said RAMW President, Lynne Breaux.  “We are delighted to support the DC ABC Board on this initiative and partner with Charmer Sunbelt and RAMW to bring this important holiday message to consumers” said Gary Zizka, Vice President Public Policy at Diageo. " As a DC resident, I appreciate the opportunity to keep our community safe.”

The Safe Holiday initiative provides our residents and visitors with an opportunity to support the District’s alcohol beverage laws through education and prevention in addition to the Board’s existing enforcementefforts.
