Events DC Lights Up Its Iconic Venues Across the District to Celebrate the Washington Nationals 2016 Postseason

October 7, 2016

As the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, Events DC will shine its venues in a red glow to celebrate the 2016 playoff berth of the Washington Nationals.  Events DC will light up the following venues: Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square and Gateway DC to support the Washington Nationals during their postseason quest

In addition, Events DC and its partner, Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) will team up to promote postseason spirt and energy across the District’s hospitality industry and restaurant members, by offering Nationals-inspired cocktails and postseason menu specials.

“As the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, Events DC is excited to once again celebrate our hometown baseball team, the Washington Nationals, on another amazing season and their 2016 postseason run,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC. “We champion District residents and local businesses to paint DC red full of postseason baseball spirit, energy and passion. It has been more than 83 years since Washington, DC last hosted a World Series and we believe that the Washington Nationals best baseball is yet to come.”

“The energy around the Nats is just phenomenal. Throughout the season we see restaurants and bars filled with fans watching the game on televisions and big screens across the region. Restaurants build community every day as they open their doors and invite guests to enjoy each other’s company and meet new faces at the bar over a bite and a ballgame. The industry is thrilled to extend this camaraderie into the postseason as the city and region paint the town (and its restaurants!) red.”

Events DC built and currently serves as landlord for Nationals Park, the first LEED-certified major professional sports stadium in the United States.  Washington, DC also looks forward to hosting the 2018 MLB All-Star Game, which will draw an estimated 60,000 residents and visitors with fan fanfare activities held in various venues across the city.  The All-Star Game and its festivities are estimated to generate $60 million of economic impact for the District.  Being selected to host one of the most prestigious events in all of sports is a true testament to the incredible and passionate sports fans in our nation’s capital.

The Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square and Gateway DC will remain decorated in red lights for the duration of the Nationals’ playoff run.
