QR Campaign Offers Chefs, Restaurateurs and Consumers a Direct Link to Their Seafood

February 27, 2013

Jessup, MD (February 28, 2013) – Congressional Seafood Co., one of the mid-Atlantic’s most respected seafood distributors, has introduced a traceability program that offers a direct link to the “REEL” story behind the seafood they deliver. QR codes, now available to fishmongers and chefs, deliver information about the species, harvest location, fisherman biographies, farm backgrounds and photography to tell the story behind the fish and its journey from hook to plate.

Recent studies have found that seafood in the United States is often mislabeled and consumers are routinely given little or no information about the seafood they eat. Some sources believe that mislabeling can occur 25% to 70% of the time. Congressional’s new traceability program offers a way to share information about the fish they sell to restaurants and retail stores throughout the mid-Atlantic.

Look for codes to start appearing on restaurant menus in the region. Restaurateurs will be encouraged to use the QR codes and incorporate them into their menus and table top displays for a more informative experience. Customers will also begin to find QR codes at local grocery stores and fish counters.

Congressional Seafood Co., located in Jessup, Maryland and conveniently situated along the I-95 corridor, is considered one of the mid-Atlantic region’s best suppliers of top quality seafood from around the globe. Their buyers source only the finest seafood products and have developed long-standing relationships with fishermen and producers enabling them to buy much of their product directly from the people catching the fish, and thus providing the freshest products to local chefs and restaurants.  Learn more about Congressional Seafood at www.congressionalseafood.com
