Tabbedout Brings Mobile Payment to Washington, DC Area

December 5, 2012
WASHINGTON DC,  – Dec 4, 2012 – Tabbedout, the free mobile payment app that allows consumers to open, view and pay tabs with their phones, has launched service in nearly 40 locations throughout the D.C. area, including at popular locations such as The Hamilton, Nellie’s Sports Bar, Old Ebbitt Grill and Public House, with more bar and restaurant locations coming soon. Additionally, when a consumer opens a tab using Tabbedout, they will see offers available for discounts off their tab, redeemable right within the app.

Available on both iPhone and Android smartphones, Tabbedout was built by security experts who like to have a good time. The mobile payment app allows users to securely store credit or debit card information directly on their phone, encrypted and under passphrase protection, instead of on host servers or in “the cloud.” Consumers are safe from the threat of stolen payment information due to lost or forgotten credit cards since they now can open and pay their tab directly from their phone without handing over their credit or debit information to a server. Patrons can also view their itemized tab in real-time, removing any surprises at the end of the night.

Tabbedout's unique mobile payment platform also allows special offers or discounts to be pushed directly to the consumer. Customers can redeem offers and apply discounts directly to their tab in real time from their phone. If the user forgets to redeem before paying their tab, the app will send a notice to apply the discount before final payment is made.

“Tabbedout has resonated with our guests by providing an easy and secure way to monitor and pay their tabs when they are ready to go,” said David Moran, director of operations for Clyde’s Restaurant Group, a management company that owns and operates 14 restaurants in the mid-Atlantic region, including Old Ebbitt Grill. “We realize that the demand for mobile payment is growing, and we wanted to make sure we had a trusted solution in place so our guests have the best experience possible when they come to our venue.”

Tabbedout integrates with most major hospitality point-of-sale (POS) systems, including industry leader MICROS, making it as easy as a simple software update for bars and restaurants to deploy Tabbedout without the need for any new hardware. With Tabbedout, bars and restaurants can spend more time serving food and drink to their patrons instead of processing closing checks, which means more revenue for their bottom line.

“Tabbedout frees up my staff’s time so they can focus on serving more drinks to more people, especially during peak hours,” said Michael Sasser, general manager of Nellie’s Sports Bar. “We want to create an experience that keeps guests coming back and that includes giving them a secure way to pay from their phone, allowing them to leave when they are ready to go.”

“Our integrations with major POS providers make it easy for mid-Atlantic region bars and restaurants to provide mobile payment to their patrons in a way that is simple, secure, easy to install and made specifically for the hospitality industry,” said Alex Broeker, president of Tabbedout. “Mobile payment is the platform that will enable merchants to do so much more, like capture customer preferences and push targeted offers, and we already are enabling our merchants to do just that.”
More than 1000 bars and restaurants offer Tabbedout nationwide. For a complete list of locations in the D.C. area, visit tabbedout.com/locations.
