Tony & Joe's Seafood Place Presents the First Annual Georgetown Shuck It! Oyster Festival

September 19, 2013

Washington, DC (September 19, 2013)—Oyster lovers: mark your calendars for Saturday, October 26, 2013, as Tony & Joe’s Seafood Place will host the first annual Georgetown Shuck It! Oyster Festival at Washington Harbour on the Georgetown Waterfront, from 2 to 6pm.

The highlight of Shuck It! is the variety of oysters from Maryland, New England and Canada. Oysters confirmed from Maryland: Barren Island, Hollywood, Choptank Sweet and Chesapeake Gold. From New England: Blue Point, Wianno and Wellfleet. From Canada: Malpeques and Hurricane Harbor. The craft beers to be paired with oysters include: Atlas Brew Works, Chandon, DC Brau, Devil's Backbone, Dogfish Head, Flying Dog, Starr Hill and 3 Stars. While beer pairings will be the main focus, wine aficionados can enjoy white wine offerings from wineries Hess and Cloudy Bay. Oyster lovers may also choose to add an extra kick to the tasting with The Bay vodka—handcrafted with traditional Chesapeake Bay seasoning and sea salt.

In addition to the freshest shucked, grilled and fried oysters, the Shuck It! spread will offer a hearty oyster chowder with potatoes, bacon and oyster crackers, and a fried oyster mini po’ boy with remoulade. Old Bay marinated steamed corn, home-made coleslaw and potato salad, and sweet strawberry shortcake makes for delicious sides to be enjoyed by the oyster enthusiast.

The cost is $75 per person – all you can eat oysters, beer & wine pairings, tax & gratuity included. Proof of age is required.  With proof of race entry, Marine Corps Marathon participants can join the pre-run fun for just $45.  Tickets are now available online.

Shuck It! will benefit Oyster Recovery Partnership, a large-scale restoration program to plant disease-free oysters back into the Chesapeake Bay.
