DC's ProStart Team Gave It Their All at the National Invitational

May 25, 2022
For the first time in over a decade, Washington, DC was among 44 states competing at NPSI represented by our Ballou High School ProStart Culinary Team.  The Ballou team, consisting of 4 students, competed on Saturday morning simultaneously with 5 other state teams in front of judges, educators, fellow students, sponsors, and family members. They definitely had the presence of a supportive cheering squad. The students came well prepared, full of excitement and a little nerves, but a lot of confidence.  They presented very well, and did a great job for their first time. They received constructive critique from the judges, who were impressed by their tenacity, determination and skill, considering they were only 9th graders.

While our Ballou team did not place amongst the winning teams, they were very excited about the opportunity to compete at the national level, experience the magnitude of culinary skill and professionalism, and witness ways they could do better next year.

A huge applause goes out to the Ballou High School ProStart culinary students for their hard work and dedication leading up to their participation in NPSI.  They are truly champions at heart!  Additionally, thank you goes out to those who were a great support to the students along their journey to NPSI, including their Chef/Educator, DCPS CTE and Culinary Directors, our sponsors (The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, The Richard E. & Nancy P. Marriott Foundation, Events DC, Metro Bethesda Rotary Foundation, and Ecolab), family members and friends.

We look forward to the growth of our ProStart program in the coming school year, and to NPSI 2023!
