Mardi Gras Benefit Feeding the DMV Restaurant Community in Need 2/16

February 1, 2021

Throwing Bean for Beads. Mardi Gras Benefit Feeding the DMV Restaurant Community in Need on February 16th, 2021.

It has been a very tough time for all of us in the restaurant industry and what helps keep us going is that we are in this together and thinking of ways to help each other. We are sharing an event we are in support of and would like to see if you wish to participate.

Event co-chairs for the annual Mardi Gras Extravaganza event in DC, chefs David Guas (native New Orleanian) and Spike Mendelsohn, along with Micheline Mendelsohn, Gina Chersevani, and Bruce Pike are putting together a DMV charitable event called a BEAN-EFIT – taking on the theme of Mardi Gras and throwing BEANS instead of BEADS to support unemployed restaurant workers in our surrounding community, offering a free to-go meal at each of the participating restaurants. This is for ONLY ONE DAY, FAT TUESDAY [February 16, 2021] to provide for the first 100 unemployed restaurant workers a bean dish for FREE. It’s a way of using the tradition of Mardi Gras when the entire city, as a community, celebrates eating and drinking.

The oldest dried bean company in North America, founded in New Orleans, Camellia Brand, is donating enough dried beans [offering one of the 19 different types of beans] for restaurants that wish to get involved by cooking a bean dish. BEAN-EFIT has also partnered with Erik Bruner-Yang and the Power of 10 initiative, addressing the loss of hospitality jobs and providing access to food during the pandemic. Through the Power of 10 Initiative, BEAN-EFIT is able to reimburse $10 per meal for each participating restaurant that has agreed to provide 100 meals to the community [$1,000 per restaurant,]

If your restaurant wishes to participate, the simoneink media relations team (Simone Rathle – native New Orleanian) will work with you on logistics and promote your efforts to the press locally and nationwide.

Participating restaurants at this time are: Bayou Bakery Coffee Bar & Eatery, Good Stuff Eatery, Buffalo & Bergen, The Salt Line, Rocklands Barbeque, Chiko, Taco Bamba, Maketto, and Tiki TNT.

PLEASE LET US KNOW NOW OR BY TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2 IF YOU WISH TO PARTICIPATE.
