Culinary Arts Training Program Director

We are in search of a Culinary Arts Director who supports the school’s mission by preparing our adult immigrant students to become productive and civically engaged residents of Washington D.C. The Culinary Arts Director plans, implements and supervises day-to-day functions of the Culinary Arts program at the Sonia Gutierrez campus including the ongoing evaluation and improvement for the program. Monitors student admission, recruitment, and assessment, and ensures compliance with school policies and procedures. This individual will work closely with the Vice- Principal to supervise and evaluate faculty and paraeducators assigned to the Culinary Arts Program. They will also oversee kitchen operations in support of students' learning.

Responsibilities:
• Guide curriculum development as internal and external needs evolve with the Culinary Arts & SG Academic teams to ensure attainment of school’s mission
• Observe, supervise, and provide feedback to instructional personnel in the implementation of curriculum
• Observes and supports faculty in classroom and kitchen
• Respond to teachers’ requests for guidance, materials, field trips and other support for curriculum implementation
• Responds to student discipline and behavioral issues.
• Supports and coordinates with the Assessment Coordinator all testing and assessment functions related to the Culinary Arts program
• Coordinates with the Professional Development team to ensure Culinary Arts faculty receive appropriate training for continuous improvement of instruction.
• Supports and coordinates with the Director of Learning and Evaluation on all data collected for strategic planning and progress toward annual PMF goals.
• Works closely with the Communications Department on outreach & recruitment efforts
• Communicates with the Registration department for the transition of current program participants and external applicants.
• Works with Employment Specialist, Small Business Manager, and Student Services Director for recruitment, job placement, and small business and/or post-secondary opportunities
• Coordinates Culinary Arts events and supports the organization of program events (such as holidays' celebrations, graduation ceremony, open house)
• Provides supervision and support for the day-to-day operation of the program.
• Audits and compiles data on student success and engagement through the use of school’s platforms
• Supervises and manages faculty and staff timecards
• Develop and manage Culinary Arts budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep the program within budget limits, maintain fiscal control; accurately report fiscal information.
• Makes recommendations for teaching assignments and hiring for faculty, paraeducators, and kitchen staff
• Works closely with the SG Campus Assistant Director of Culinary Operations to:
o Integrate curriculum with the service needs of the program
o Purchase and maintain Culinary Arts classroom and kitchen equipment
• Collaborates with the Employment Specialist to assist students in finding jobs, post-secondary schooling opportunities, and small business opportunities
• Coordinates the Culinary Arts Training Program Advisory Committee

• Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts or related field, with a minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience or the appropriate combination of education and experience
• Extensive knowledge of Culinary Arts careers and educational requirements
• Possess Culinary Arts Licenses required for the profession
• Minimum of 2 years of managerial or supervisory in a Culinary Arts educational setting
• Ability to work with external constituencies including business and industrial partners
• Experience working with adult English Language Learners
• Excellent organizational skills and timely completion of tasks
• Math Aptitude: comfortable with numbers, measurements, and conversions
• Customer Orientation: Customer service skills with internal and external customers
• Dedication: Being persistent, punctual, and dependable, with a positive, can-do attitude
• Leadership Capacity: ability to motivate, coach, mentor, and lead a diverse team
• Ability to work and manage others under pressure
• Flexibility/Adaptability: experienced in a dynamic working environment
• Able to work independently and in teams of diverse backgrounds
• Honesty: trustworthiness with company resources and information
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain concepts to others effectively
• Knowledge and experience in digital literacy across a wide range of platforms
• Ability to speak Spanish preferred
