MD Restaurants Partner to Help Feed Local Families

April 2, 2020

Washington, DC – Clyde’s Restaurant Group and Founding Farmers announce today the launch of Food it Forward MD, an initiative to support the hard-hit restaurant industry and provide quality food to vulnerable populations, first responders, and frontline health care workers in Montgomery & Howard counties.

Through Food It Forward MD, the public can purchase delivery meals packaged by local restaurants. Meals will be distributed to Maryland frontline health care workers, first responders, and to those in need by community partners like Bethesda Cares, Community Food Rescue, Grass Roots Crisis Intervention, and the Community of Action Council of Howard County. “There are so many people who want to help but aren’t quite sure how to help.  Food It Forward MD provides an easy and productive platform.  By purchasing meals through our program, you are putting Virginia restaurants to work providing meals for healthcare workers, first responders, shelters and community support systems right here in Maryland.”, says John McDonnell, Chief Operating Officer of Clyde’s Restaurant Group.

A meal donated through Food It Forward, supports not only local restaurants but also provides healthy food to our local community members affected by the COVID-19 Crisis. “When we heard about Food it Forward it was a no brainer for us. Times are tough and uncertain right now - and to be able to support the first responders and healthcare workers who are on the front lines fighting the fight, and to provide some reprieve for people within the community who just need a little help right now, of course we wanted to help. That is what this business is all about at its core - taking care of people, and why I know our operations are truly essential. We’re proud to be part of it; it’s a great way for the whole community to come together and do some good.”, say Dan Simons, co owner of Farmers Restaurant Group.

The safety of the restaurant teams, partners, and families remain paramount to the operation. Food It Forward meets these goals by requiring participating restaurants to have rigorous cleanliness standards, multiple production kitchens, and the ability to break up team members into several strictly separated teams.

Contributions to Food It Forward allows restaurants to benefit from the continued business and employment of its staff and provides fresh food to the community. Visit  FooditForwardMD.com for more information.
