Chefs, Mixologists compete in cooking challenge highlighting Chilean Foods

Washington, DC (October 23, 2014)—Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) and Foods from Chile, are pleased to present a unique opportunity to eat, drink and experience Chile, as six acclaimed chefs and two award-winning mixologists face off in a cooking competition and cocktail battle. The food and wine event, showing off the best ingredients that Chile has to offer and RAMW restaurant professionals, will take place at the beautiful headquarters of the National Restaurant Association on Monday November 3, 5:00pm-8:00pm. 

The unprecedented experience will highlight Chile's vast diversity of exports and food and beverage production from the region. Sommelier Brent Kroll of Neighborhood Restaurant Group will host a Wines of Chile wine tasting to complement the cooking competition, featuring: Chef Felipe Milanes of Toro Toro, Chef Kazuhiro Okochi of Kaz Sushi Bistro, Chef Victor Albisu of Del Campo and Taco Bamba, Chef Riyad Bouizar of Mazagan Restaurant, Chef Justus Frank of Alphonse, Chef Domenico Apollaro of Lupo Verde, Mixologist Mary Kelly of Del Campo and Mixologist Francesco Amodeo of Lupo Verde and Don Ciccio & Figli, who will be preparing cocktails with Pisco Waqar, a signature spirit from Chile.

With Chilean food, spirits and wine varietals from every region the event presents a chance to experience new flavors and tasting opportunities,” said Julie Sproesser, RAMW Managing Director. “With such an international culture here in DC, chefs are looking for exciting new and quality ingredients making Chile an obvious choice.”

During the cooking challenge the acclaimed chefs will utilize an impressive lineup of Chilean ingredients including salmon, extra virgin olive oil, berries and more. Among the traditional Chilean options such as fresh fruits, dehydrated products, wines, and pisco, innovations are being made to add value with gourmet products such as extra virgin olive oil, seafood, Andes mountain waters, jams, honey and microbrews.

The geographic isolation of the country, which is positioned between the Pacific Ocean, Andes Mountains, the Atacama desert and the Patagonian ice, provides a pristine environment for healthy and beneficial growth and production of agriculture and decreases the risk of pest and disease incidents, ensuring food quality beyond compare.
