Uber and the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington Team up to Help Restaurant Workers in the DMV Get to Vaccine Appointments

5,000 FREE rides for Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington members will help keep restaurant workers safe amid the ongoing pandemic.

WASHINGTON - on March 29th, Uber announced it will donate 5,000 free rides to the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) to help restaurant workers get to and from their COVID-19 vaccination appointments. This announcement is part of Uber’s commitment to donate 10 million free rides to vaccine appointments nationally. 

“DC’s restaurant workers are among the hardest working and hardest hit members of our community,” said Michele Blackwell, Public Policy Manager at Uber. “Uber is proud to partner with the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington to help restaurants as they begin to safely reopen for business and ensure their workers have transportation to their COVID-19 vaccine appointments. We are all excited to return to the city’s restaurants and we hope these rides will make sure restaurant workers are protected.” 

Promo codes will be distributed to members via RAMW and can be redeemed until September 30, 2021. 

“It has been a top priority of RAMW that the foodservice industry’s essential workforce are able to be vaccinated as early as possible in the vaccine rollout,” said Kathy E. Hollinger, President and CEO of the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington. “Now that we are in or nearing that phase across the region, it is great to have supporters like Uber who are helping remove barriers to help many workers get vaccinated as they continue to interface with the public, and prepare for increasingly busy indoor and outdoor dining months to come.”   

The partnership with RAMW is the latest way Uber is helping support restaurants and restaurant workers in the DMV. Earlier this year, Uber announced a $20 million commitment to help independently-owned restaurants across the country recover from the economic setbacks caused by the pandemic. The package included $4.5 million in micro grants to local restaurants—including those in Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, and Baltimore, MD—and an in-app dollar-for-dollar Uber donation match so eaters can give more to their favorite local spots.
