PubKey

PubKey DC is a 12,000-square-foot neighborhood pub that opened December 19, 2025 at 410 Seventh Street NW in Penn Quarter, just steps from Capital One Arena, taking over the former Hill Country Barbecue space. It is the second location of the concept, following the original that opened in New York's Greenwich Village in 2022. With its warm wood paneling and classic tavern atmosphere, PubKey has quickly established itself as a pre- and post-game destination for Capitals and Wizards fans and a daily gathering spot for downtown workers — the venue opens daily at 3 p.m., and its scale fills a notable gap in the market for large, group-friendly gathering spaces in the arena district.

On the hospitality side, PubKey is a serious food-and-beverage operation, pairing elevated, accessibly priced pub fare with a thoughtful cocktail program. Early reviews from Axios and others have praised the food quality as well exceeding expectations, and the room itself sets the concept apart: the design and finish level are several cuts above anything else in the neighborhood's pub-and-tavern segment, giving Penn Quarter a polished, destination-worthy room at approachable price points. A basement comedy club is also in the works, adding a live-entertainment anchor that will extend the venue's draw into the evening and late-night hours.

What distinguishes PubKey from a conventional bar-and-grill is its premium events capability. The space includes two bars, a broadcast-ready podcast studio, a karaoke room, and dedicated event space, with livestreaming and podcast production possible on site — making it uniquely suited for corporate gatherings, media tapings, watch parties, and association events that want built-in production infrastructure rather than a rented AV setup.
