June 19, 2024
Washington, D.C. – The #100kPorkChopChallenge has moved into the voting phase. The public can now vote for their favorite pork chop dishes from participating restaurants in the Capital Beltway. The winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize, and an additional $100,000 worth of pork products will be donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
“Thanks to the generous support from pork producers nationwide, we are thrilled to host this competition. It not only promotes culinary excellence but also brings communities together to support local businesses and address food insecurity,” said Roy Lee Lindsey, executive director of the Virginia Pork Council. “With its versatility and affordability, pork stands out as a top choice in the kitchen. This exciting and competitive challenge aims to highlight just how diverse and accessible pork, specifically the pork chop, can be.”
The #100kPorkChopChallenge began its voting phase today, June 19, and will continue until July 3, 2024. During this period, the public can visit the 27 participating restaurants and vote for their favorite pork chop in the People’s Pork Chop Awards.
“Pork producers take immense pride in delivering high-quality products that are safe, sustainable, and delicious,” said Trish Cook, past president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association. “This competition is an excellent platform to showcase the dedication and hard work of pork producers. We look forward to partnering with talented and highly awarded chefs from McLean, Falls Church, Arlington, Silver Spring, Tacoma Park, and Washington D.C. to highlight the best pork chops metro D.C. has to offer.”
A minimum of three and a maximum of five (in case of ties) vote-getters will advance to the final phase of the competition, where they will compete in front of a panel of culinary professionals and pork producers from Virginia, Iowa, and North Carolina. Judging visits will take place on July 11-12, 2024. The ultimate winner will be announced the week of July 21, 2024.
“A special thank you to the National Restaurant Association and the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington for encouraging their members to sign up. Additionally, thank you to the team at The List, Are You On It, for their enthusiasm and help in spreading the word about this competition,” said Roy Lee Lindsey, executive director of the Virginia Pork Council. “We look forward to a great competition and seeing who has the top chop!”
