Help Defeat Fairfax County Meals Tax

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is seeking to introduce a referendum ballot measure that would impose a meals tax of 4% on all restaurant meals and prepared foods in Fairfax County. Fairfax County does not currently have a meals tax.

The Board of Supervisors has created a Task Force, which RAMW is a part of that will put together options for the Board about the potential implementation of a meals tax. RAMW strongly opposes a meals tax in Fairfax, and needs you to join us in this fight!

Actions to Defeating the Meals Tax

RAMW with the help of Great American Restaurants, Clyde's, Matchbox and Fairfax Chambers have been working tirelessly to formulate a plan to defeat the meals tax. RAMW created a White Paper, which provides statistics and case studies that show the detrimental effects the proposed meals tax would not only have on restaurants, but also on lower income families and senior citizens. Click here to read the white paper.

Mark Tate, our Legislative Consultant, has been representing RAMW at the Task Force meetings and has been lobbying Board members to join us in opposing the meals tax.

It is important the Board sees that Fairfax County and Northern Virginia restaurants, businesses and residents oppose the meals tax!
