Intern with RAMW

RAMW is a dynamic, member-driven and impactful organization committed to promoting and sustaining the growth and development of the local restaurant industry while providing our members legislative and regulatory representation, marketing and small business support, programming, and events. 

RAMW offers spring, summer, and fall internship opportunities in three primary areas: Public Policy, Insights and Knowledge, and Member Engagement

Internships are 20 to 25 hours per week in person at the RAMW office and paid $20 an hour. To apply, send a cover letter, resume, and two samples of work to internships@ramw.org.  Include which internship you are applying for in your application.

Internship Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Careful attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and multitask.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills and willingness to ask questions as necessary. 
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Computer competencies, including conducting online research and experience with G Suite tools Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

 

Public Policy Internship

The RAMW Public Policy Intern works closely with our Government Affairs team to monitor legislative developments, engage with key stakeholders, and contribute to advocacy initiatives that directly impact our organization. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in government relations, public policy, and advocacy, including: 

  • Skill- and knowledge-building opportunities in the field of public policy, especially as it relates to the hospitality industry and small business.
  • Training and experience in professional research and writing. 
  • Opportunities to build the intern’s professional network. 

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Vice President of Government Affairs, major responsibilities of the Public Policy Intern include: 

  • Legislative Monitoring: Tracking and reporting on legislation in city and county governments in the Washington metropolitan area, with a strong focus on the District of Columbia.
  • Policy Research: Conducting research on priority policy issues, providing insightful summaries, and making recommendations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Assisting in building and maintaining relationships with government officials, regulatory agencies, and fellow business and industry associations.
  • Advocacy Support: Contributing to the development of advocacy materials, including member surveys, policy briefs for internal and external audiences, talking points, and presentations.
  • Meetings Coordination: Supporting the planning and execution of government affairs events, including meetings with policymakers, briefings, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Communication: Drafting and editing communications materials, such as press releases, newsletters, and social media content related to government affairs activities.
  • Records Management: Updating and maintaining records of local policy makers and key staff.
  • Collaboration: Working  collaboratively with cross-functional teams within the organization to ensure alignment between government affairs activities and broader organizational goals.

 

Insights and Knowledge Internship

The RAMW Insights and Knowledge Intern plays a central role in advancing our mission by conducting innovative research, generating insights, and making significant contributions to our public policy and advocacy work. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the field of public policy research, including: 

  • Practical experience working with various data sources, including quantitative research, qualitative studies, and economic data.
  • Training and experience in professional research and reporting. 
  • Opportunities to build the intern’s professional network. 

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Vice President of Government Affairs, major responsibilities of the Insights and Knowledge Intern include: 

  • Data Collection and Analysis: Assisting in the collection, organization, and analysis of research data using a variety of methodologies, tools, and software.
  • Policy Review: Conducting comprehensive policy reviews to inform the development of research projects, including most recent developments in related fields. 
  • Report Writing: Contributing to the development of research reports, policy briefs, and other publications, summarizing findings and providing actionable insights.
  • Collaboration: Working collaboratively with team members to contribute to interdisciplinary research projects and share insights across the organization and industry.
  • Project Coordination: Assisting in the coordination of research projects, including managing timelines, communicating with stakeholders, and ensuring the smooth execution of research activities.
  • Presentation: Preparing and delivering presentations to internal teams, summarizing research findings and recommendations.

 

Member Engagement Internship

The Member Services Intern has a critical role in ensuring that our members receive exceptional support and resources and contribute to the development of programming to expand and strengthen the organization’s value proposition to members. This internship provides a unique opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in membership management in a member-based organization, including: 

  • Training in a variety of member and stakeholder communications, including membership collateral,  in-person meetings, and online presentations. 
  • Experience in providing positive and enriching professional development programming for members. 
  • Opportunities to build the intern’s professional network. 

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Managing Director, major responsibilities of the Member Services Intern include: 

  • Member Engagement: Interacting with members through various channels, including email, phone, and online platforms, to address inquiries and provide information about membership benefits.
  • Database Management: Assisting in maintaining accurate and up-to-date member records in the database, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Communication: Drafting and editing member communications, including newsletters, announcements, and other materials to keep members informed about upcoming events, resources, and opportunities.
  • Event and Meeting Support: Collaborating with the team to provide logistical support for member-related events, including registration, attendee management, and post-event follow-up.
  • Member Surveys: Assisting in the development and analysis of member satisfaction surveys to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
